GE AEROSPACE TO INVEST £19 MILLION TO MODERNISE NANTGARW MRO SITE

Major refurbishment project will enhance infrastructure, efficiency, and sustainability at Wales’ leading commercial engine maintenance hub.

Nantgarw, UK – 1 December 2025 – GE Aerospace has unveiled plans to invest £19 million over the next three years to modernise its Nantgarw site in Wales, a world-class centre for commercial engine Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations.

The refurbishment will upgrade more than 70,000 square feet of roof space, along with building cladding, insulation, and glazing installations. The modernisation programme aims to reduce energy consumption, support renewable energy initiatives, and improve operational efficiency across the site.

Stephen Edwards, Managing Director & Executive Plant Leader at GE Aerospace Wales, said: “This investment reflects GE Aerospace’s commitment to operational excellence and sustainability. By modernising our infrastructure, we are not only enhancing our capabilities but also creating opportunities to support the next generation of engines and renewable energy projects. This investment secures the future of global operations right here in Wales, the gateway to the European aerospace market.”

The project represents the single largest investment at the Wales site in over 20 years, following the construction of the widebody Test Cell facility in 1999.

The Rt Hon Eluned Morgan MS, First Minister of Wales, welcomed the announcement, stating: “I’m delighted that GE Aerospace has made this long-term commitment to its Nantgarw site… This investment by GE Aerospace is a major vote of confidence in Wales and is great news for the local community, the local supply chain and especially the staff – not just the current workforce, but the workforce of the future.”

Employing more than 1,350 engineers and technical specialists, GE Aerospace Wales serves a global customer base with industry-leading MRO services. The site is also home to an award-winning Apprenticeship Programme, currently supporting 43 apprentices in partnership with Coleg y Cymoedd.

This investment is part of GE Aerospace’s broader strategy to enhance infrastructure, skills, and operational excellence across Europe. In October 2024, the company announced plans to invest over £107 million into MRO and component repair facilities across the continent through 2026, demonstrating its commitment to workforce development and the evolving needs of the aerospace industry.
