NESTE AND WORLD FUEL SERVICES EXTEND SAF SUPPLY AGREEMENT ACROSS EUROPEAN AIRPORT NETWORK

Five-year agreement expands SAF availability to more than 100 European airports

Neste and World Fuel Services have extended their existing partnership through a five-year agreement that will expand the availability of Neste-supplied sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to more than 100 airports across World Fuel’s United Kingdom and European network.

The agreement supports World Fuel’s ability to secure SAF supply and meet regulatory requirements, including the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation and the United Kingdom SAF mandate. Through World Fuel’s distribution network, SAF will be supplied to commercial, business and general aviation customers across the region.

Long-standing collaboration supports regulatory compliance and supply stability

The extended agreement builds on a long-term collaboration between the two companies, combining World Fuel’s established fuel distribution infrastructure and aviation supply capabilities with Neste’s SAF production and supply capacity.

This includes Neste’s renewable fuels refinery in Rotterdam, Netherlands, which is currently capable of producing up to 500,000 tonnes of SAF annually.

Duncan Storey, Senior Vice President, EMEA at World Fuel, said combining World Fuel’s European airport network with Neste’s expanding production strengthens supply stability as regulatory requirements accelerate across the region. He noted the agreement is expected to support consistent and scalable SAF access across Europe.

Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President, Commercial, Renewable Products at Neste, said the collaboration supports the aviation sector in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and meeting SAF mandate requirements. He added that Neste plans to increase SAF production capacity from 1.5 million tonnes per annum to 2.2 million tonnes per annum by 2027, with World Fuel’s airport network expected to support increased availability and flexibility of supply.

SAF positioned as lower-emission alternative to conventional jet fuel

Sustainable aviation fuel is a renewable aviation fuel designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared with conventional fossil-based jet fuel. According to Neste, when used in neat form, lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by up to 80% compared with conventional jet fuel, based on recognised lifecycle assessment methodologies such as CORSIA.

Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel is produced from renewable waste and residue feedstocks, including used cooking oil and animal fat waste. SAF is certified for commercial aviation use and can currently be blended at up to 50% with conventional jet fuel while remaining fully compatible with existing aircraft engines and fuelling infrastructure.

Neste’s global SAF production capacity is currently approximately 1.5 million tonnes per annum, with expansion planned to reach 2.2 million tonnes per annum by 2027.
