LOCKHEED MARTIN COMPLETES SPY-7 LIVE TARGET TRACKING EXERCISE

Lockheed Martin has completed a live target tracking exercise using the SPY-7 radar as part of the Aegis System Equipped Vessel programme.

Demonstration of integrated system capability

The exercise, conducted in collaboration with U.S. and Japanese defence organisations, marked the first live target tracking event for the SPY-7 radar configured for the ASEV platform.

During the test, the system demonstrated a full sequence of operational functions, including detection, identification, tracking, and discrimination of live targets, followed by simulated engagement scenarios.

SPY-7 radar performance

The SPY-7 radar is designed to address complex threat environments through advanced detection and tracking capabilities. Its ability to manage multiple targets simultaneously is a key component of its operational role within the Aegis system.

The successful outcome of the exercise indicates a level of maturity in the integrated system as it progresses towards deployment.

Operational deployment in Japan

The radar system used in the exercise will be delivered to Japan for installation on its first Aegis System Equipped Vessel. Once deployed, it will form part of the country’s broader missile defence architecture.

The programme reflects ongoing collaboration between the United States and Japan in the development of advanced defence capabilities.
