Leonardo has completed its 100% acquisition of GEM Elettronica, consolidating its portfolio of naval radar, navigation, and coastal situational awareness systems.
ROME, ITALY — Leonardo has announced the completion of its acquisition of GEM Elettronica, successfully increasing its shareholding from 65% to 100%. The finalisation of this transaction marks the total integration of GEM Elettronica into Leonardo’s broader corporate structure.
Naval and Coastal Systems Integration
The acquisition is a strategic move intended to strengthen Leonardo’s position in the maritime domain. By achieving full ownership, Leonardo can now fully integrate GEM’s product portfolio into its own suite of radar and sensor systems. This consolidation is specifically aimed at enhancing the group’s offerings for naval and coastal applications, providing a more seamless range of situational awareness and navigation solutions.
Operational Specialisation and Financial Performance
GEM Elettronica has demonstrated a strong market presence, reporting revenues in excess of €45 million for the 2025 financial year. The company specialises in the development and production of high-precision navigation systems, situational awareness technology, and radar systems. The full integration of these capabilities is expected to provide Leonardo with deeper technical expertise in the coastal surveillance and naval electronics sectors.
