Airbus is expanding its digital sovereignty strategy through European partnerships, secure infrastructure and investment in sovereign technologies to strengthen resilience and innovation.
DIGITAL RESILIENCE
Supporting technological autonomy
Airbus is reinforcing its digital sovereignty strategy to maintain control over critical digital technologies while balancing technological autonomy with access to best-in-class solutions.
According to the company, digital sovereignty is central to ensuring operational continuity, protecting sensitive data, strengthening economic resilience and contributing to European technological excellence.
The strategy is built around four pillars: ensuring operational continuity, controlling data access, strengthening economic sovereignty and advancing technological sovereignty through collaboration with European partners.
Airbus said it adopts a pragmatic approach by prioritising sovereign solutions for military applications and critical intellectual property while continuing to use leading technologies that meet operational and security requirements.
EUROPEAN PARTNERSHIPS
Building sovereign capabilities
Since 2021, Airbus has played a leadership role in Gaia-X and is a member of the European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud. The company is also a co-developer of DECADE-X and became a founding member of the European Sovereign Tech Industry Alliance (ESTIA) in 2025.
In May 2026, Airbus joined ASML, Ericsson, Mistral, Nokia, SAP and Siemens to establish the European Tech Creators coalition, advocating innovation-friendly technology and industrial policies across Europe.
To support its digital resilience, Airbus has deployed private 5G networks with Ericsson, introduced two new-generation supercomputers with Bull, entered a long-term collaboration with Mistral to develop sovereign artificial intelligence solutions, and continued strengthening cybersecurity through supply chain standards, acquisitions and evaluation of Trusted Cloud infrastructure.
BALANCED APPROACH
Innovation and security
Airbus said its digital sovereignty strategy seeks to balance long-term strategic resilience with access to the best available technologies. While European partnerships remain a priority, the company stated it will continue using leading global technologies where appropriate to support innovation and customer requirements.
According to Airbus, this collaborative approach is intended to help safeguard its operations, strengthen Europe’s technological ecosystem and enable the company to continue delivering innovative aerospace and defence solutions.
