Piper Aircraft has used EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026 to announce five simultaneous developments: a new factory service centre in Vero Beach, a fleet agreement with ATP Flight School, a European training partnership with Leading Edge Aviation, a manufacturing MOU with AURA AERO for the ERA hybrid-electric regional aircraft, and a tooling collaboration with Robinson Helicopter for the R88.
SERVICE CENTRE, TRAINING FLEET AND MANUFACTURING PARTNERSHIPS MARK A WIDE-RANGING OSHKOSH DAY
Piper Aircraft has used EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026 as the platform for five distinct announcements spanning its customer support, training market and manufacturing divisions — a breadth of activity that reflects the company’s growing ambition not only as an aircraft manufacturer but as a provider of manufacturing services and industrial partnerships through its dedicated Piper Industrial Manufacturing Company (PIMCO) subsidiary.
VERO BEACH: 33,000-SQUARE-FOOT FACTORY SERVICE CENTRE BY Q4 2027
The most infrastructure-significant announcement is the planned construction of a new, state-of-the-art service centre at Piper’s existing 30-acre manufacturing campus in Vero Beach, Florida. The two-storey facility will encompass more than 33,000 square feet of indoor space housing seven aircraft bays, with an additional 11,000 square feet of outdoor service area providing four further bays. The centre will serve as a factory-supported independent service provider for the Piper general aviation community across the Eastern United States, the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America, covering a range from routine annual inspections to heavy maintenance and factory-backed one-off repairs.
Groundbreaking is planned for later in 2026, with the facility scheduled to open in Q4 2027, coinciding with Piper’s 90th anniversary. The development is projected to create at least 20 new positions — technicians, A&P mechanics and support staff — and will further cement Piper Aircraft’s position as the largest private employer in Indian River County. Ron Gunnarson, Piper’s Vice President of Sales, Marketing, Customer Support and Quality, said the facility was a strategic move to support the rapidly growing M-Class fleet, and that the full spectrum of specialised, dedicated factory maintenance services offered would be unprecedented in the region.
ATP FLIGHT SCHOOL: SIX FIRM, 25 OPTIONS FOR ARCHER TX AND SEMINOLE AIRCRAFT
Piper has announced a fleet agreement with ATP Flight School — the world’s largest Piper training fleet operator — for six firm aircraft with options for a further 25 in 2027. Delivery of three newly produced Piper Archer TX aircraft will take place within 30 days of the announcement, followed by three Piper Seminoles in 2027. ATP utilises the Archer TX for single-engine training and the Seminole for multi-engine instruction within its Airline Career Pilot Program across more than 85 training centres nationwide. Michael Arnold, Vice President of Marketing at ATP, said the agreement would support further improvements in aircraft availability, noting that ATP’s current 3:1 student-to-aircraft ratio had already contributed to reducing the training timeline of the Airline Career Pilot Program by 25%.
LEADING EDGE AVIATION: 10 ARCHER DX AIRCRAFT FOR EUROPEAN EXPANSION
In a separate training market development, Piper has welcomed Leading Edge Aviation as the newest European member of its Piper Flight School Alliance, with the academy entering into a purchase agreement for ten Piper Archer DX aircraft, with the first delivery already completed last month. Leading Edge Aviation, which operates a holistic Whole Pilot training programme with a philosophy centred on innovation, data-driven instruction and student-centred learning, will use the Archer DX as its primary single-engine training aircraft. Gunnarson said the agreement marked an important step in Piper’s continued global expansion in the training market, and Chief Operating Officer Dave Alexander of Leading Edge Aviation cited the Archer DX’s modern glass cockpit and fuel-efficient engine as key factors in the selection.
PIMCO AND AURA AERO: MANUFACTURING ERA’S HYBRID-ELECTRIC FUSELAGE
The two PIMCO announcements at Oshkosh represent a significant step in Piper’s strategic diversification into third-party aerospace manufacturing services. The more substantial of the two involves a Memorandum of Understanding between PIMCO and French sustainable aviation developer AURA AERO, to support the industrialisation and scalable production of ERA — AURA AERO’s 19-seat hybrid-electric regional aircraft, scheduled for entry into service in 2030 from manufacturing facilities in Daytona Beach, Florida and Toulouse, France, against an order book of approximately 700 aircraft. PIMCO will contribute its 85-year heritage in aluminium aerostructure fabrication and certification to the ERA programme, addressing one of the most critical challenges in bringing a new regional aircraft type to market: the transition from prototype manufacturing to high-volume, cost-predictable production.
Jérémy Caussade, Co-Founder and President of AURA AERO, said industrial readiness was as critical as aircraft development, and that PIMCO’s experience in aluminium aerostructures strengthened the manufacturing capabilities behind ERA and represented another important step toward delivering commercial aviation’s first hybrid-electric passenger aircraft. John Calcagno, Piper’s President and CEO, said PIMCO was uniquely positioned — through its proven aerostructure manufacturing heritage and rigorous certification processes — to help bring the future of eco-designed, sustainable commuter transport to the global market.
PIMCO AND ROBINSON HELICOPTER: SHEET-METAL TOOLING FOR THE R88
The second PIMCO partnership involves Robinson Helicopter Company, with the two American aerospace manufacturers entering into a collaboration agreement to exchange technical expertise and operational best practices across design and manufacturing. The initial focus is on advanced sheet-metal tool design and manufacturing for the R88 — Robinson’s largest and most complex aircraft to date, engineered for demanding commercial, utility and parapublic applications. By combining Robinson’s engineering vision with PIMCO’s established capabilities in sheet-metal forming, tooling design and assembly, the teams have already accelerated prototype development of the R88. David Smith, President and CEO of Robinson Helicopter, said collaborating with PIMCO to advance American manufacturing was an important step and that PIMCO’s advanced and optimised metal forming processes were dramatically shortening the development cycle for the R88. Calcagno described the collaboration as proving that PIMCO could support complex aerospace programmes with the agility, technical rigour and quality assurance demanded by top-tier OEMs and government procurement standards.
