AIRBUS LAUNCHES WING OF TOMORROW FLIGHT TESTS, TARGETS EUR 12-13 BILLION EBIT BY 2029 AND DOUBLES PHILIPPINE AIRLINES A350-1000 ORDER AT FARNBOROUGH

A major Airbus investor update at Farnborough has set a 2029 EBIT target of EUR 12-13 billion and approved a EUR 5 billion share buyback, while the manufacturer simultaneously launched a three-year Wing of Tomorrow flight test campaign on an A321neo, signed a Canadian Flexrotor order with Voyageur Aviation, and doubled Philippine Airlines’ A350-1000 commitment to 18 aircraft.

EUR 12-13 BILLION EBIT TARGET AND EUR 5 BILLION BUYBACK SET IN LONDON INVESTOR UPDATE

 

Airbus has held a Business Update for investors and analysts in London during Farnborough week, with CEO Guillaume Faury and members of top management presenting strategy and financial perspectives across Commercial Aircraft, Helicopters, and Defence and Space. The centrepiece is a new mid-term outlook targeting EUR 12 to 13 billion of EBIT Adjusted in 2029, based on a EUR/USD exchange rate assumption of 1.22. Airbus will also reiterate its cash conversion target of approximately 1 over a five-year horizon.

 

As part of the update, the Airbus Board of Directors has approved a share buyback programme of EUR 5 billion over three years, reinforcing its commitment to shareholder returns. The company’s 2026 guidance remains unchanged. Faury said Airbus was ramping up across all businesses to meet strong demand for its portfolio of innovative civil and military solutions, with its trajectory fuelling profitable growth for customers, employees, partners and shareholders. The outlook assumes no additional disruptions to global trade, air traffic or supply chains, and does not reflect the potential impact of any M&A activity.

 

WING OF TOMORROW: FULL-SCALE FLIGHT TEST CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES ON A321NEO

 

Airbus has announced the launch of its Wing of Tomorrow flight test campaign — the next phase of one of its largest research and technology programmes, backed by GBP 227 million from the Aerospace Technology Institute since 2014. Over the next three years, Airbus will design, build and flight test full-scale wing extensions on an A321neo aircraft to evaluate how different wing geometries perform in real flight conditions. Each extension, measuring several metres in length, will replicate a folding wing in the fully extended position and be fitted with comprehensive test instrumentation. Extensions will be assembled at Airbus’s Wing Technology Development Centre in the UK and flight tested in Toulouse.

 

Airbus has already built three 17-metre ground-based wing demonstrators and validated more than 100 manufacturing and assembly technologies. Sue Partridge, Airbus Head of Wing of Tomorrow, said the wing was one of the biggest levers available to improve flight efficiency, and that the flight test campaign would safely challenge traditional design limits and explore the benefits of longer wings for the next generation of single-aisle aircraft.

 

PHILIPPINE AIRLINES DOUBLES A350-1000 COMMITMENT TO 18 AIRCRAFT

 

Philippine Airlines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding at Farnborough for nine additional A350-1000 widebody aircraft — doubling its total A350-1000 commitment to 18 aircraft, of which the first two have been delivered in 2026. The A350-1000 serves as PAL’s flagship, enabling non-stop services in both directions between Manila and cities on the US East Coast and Canada. The nine new aircraft will be configured in a three-class layout of 382 passengers: 42 Business Class suites with privacy doors and fully flat beds, 24 Premium Economy seats and 316 Economy seats with the latest IFE and connectivity. Lucio C. Tan III, President and COO of PAL Holdings, said the A350-1000 continued to define the future of PAL’s international operations. At end of June 2026, the A350 Family had received 1,595 firm orders from 68 customers.

 

AIRBUS U030 FLEXROTOR: FIRST CANADIAN ORDER WITH VOYAGEUR AVIATION

 

Airbus Helicopters and Voyageur Aviation have signed an agreement at Farnborough for the first purchase order of the Airbus U030 Flexrotor unmanned aerial system in Canada — making Voyageur the official Canadian launch customer. The Flexrotor is a high-endurance VTOL UAS for ISTAR operations, with a maximum launch weight of 25 kg, 12-plus hours endurance and fully autonomous launch and recovery from a 3.7 by 3.7 metre area on land or sea — well suited to Canada’s vast Arctic and maritime environments. Cory Cousineau, President of Voyageur, said the purchase positioned Voyageur to introduce and operationalise a rapidly deployable and mission-ready ISR solution anywhere in Canada or beyond.
