ANA Holdings has signed for eight additional Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, formalising an expansion first announced in July and taking the Japanese group’s firm E2 order to 23 aircraft, with five options still open.
ANA DEEPENS ITS E190-E2 COMMITMENT AS JAPANESE REGIONAL FLEET GROWS
Embraer and ANA Holdings Inc. have signed an agreement for eight further E190-E2 aircraft, formalising a fleet expansion ANA HD first unveiled on 29 July 2026. The deal builds on the airline group’s original 2025 purchase contract for 15 firm E190-E2 aircraft, taking its total firm E2 order to 23, with five additional options still held. ANA HD’s first aircraft under this latest agreement is scheduled for delivery in 2028.
“This additional E190-E2 order accelerates our efforts to build a sustainable regional aviation network in Japan,” said Koji Shibata, president and chief executive of ANA Holdings. “It also underscores our confidence in Embraer’s technology to reduce both environmental impact and operating costs. We are excited to deepen our partnership, elevating regional connectivity and delivering a superior passenger experience across Japan.” Arjan Meijer, president and chief executive of Embraer Commercial Aviation, said the manufacturer was “honoured by ANA HD’s continued confidence in Embraer E2 small narrowbody aircraft,” adding that the type’s economics and fuel efficiency would “support expanded connectivity across Japan along with better comfort and space for passengers.”
The order continues a relationship that dates to 2009, when Embraer E-Jets first entered service in Japan, and reflects a broader pattern in the region of replacing older regional equipment with the re-engined E2 generation on the dense, short-haul domestic routes that make up much of ANA HD’s network. As WAN reported on 2 September, Embraer’s E-Jets family, spanning the original E170 through E195 and the re-engined E190-E2 and E195-E2, has now passed 2,000 aircraft delivered worldwide since 2004; this order adds directly to that E2-generation order book. Embraer says it delivers an aircraft somewhere in the world on average every ten seconds, across a fleet that carries more than 150 million passengers annually, figures that give some sense of scale to a single order of this size without suggesting this order alone moves that needle.
