Air Botswana has announced an indefinite delay of its highly anticipated Gaborone-Windhoek-Durban service, which was originally slated to begin on October 1. The Namibia Airports Company cited unforeseen circumstances as the primary reason for the postponement.
The airline attributed the delay to two major issues: the delayed delivery of the aircraft meant for the route and the ongoing process of adding the new aircraft to its Air Operator Certificate (AOC). “We have explored and implemented all possible avenues to minimise the effect on our passengers,” Air Botswana explained. The airline is actively working with the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana to expedite the AOC certification and ensure a successful launch of these routes.
In the meantime, Air Botswana is collaborating with travel agents to provide alternative travel arrangements for affected passengers. The airline is committed to ensuring that passengers can complete their journeys with minimal disruption.
For those planning to fly to Windhoek, the Namibia Airports Company has advised considering alternative carriers. FlySafair is launching a twice-weekly service between Cape Town International Airport and Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek, starting on October 22. Additionally, South African Airways will introduce a third daily frequency between Johannesburg and Windhoek on October 27.
