AIR CANADA DISCLOSES FIRM ORDER FOR EIGHT AIRBUS A350-1000 AIRCRAFT

Air Canada has disclosed a firm order for eight Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, reinforcing its long-haul fleet strategy and expanding its commitment to Airbus widebody aircraft. The order was previously listed as undisclosed in November 2025.

Air Canada states the A350-1000 will support its global expansion strategy, supported by the aircraft’s operating economics and lower operating costs. With a range of up to 9,000 nautical miles, the aircraft is expected to support non-stop connectivity from Canada to markets across the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia and Australia.

Air Canada says the selection of the A350-1000 represents the next step in the evolution of its fleet, providing improved efficiency and operational capability. The aircraft is expected to support the airline’s long-haul network development and global connectivity strategy.

Airbus states the selection reflects the technological capability of the A350-1000 platform and its role in supporting airline fleet modernisation strategies, including performance, range and operational efficiency.

Aircraft design and passenger environment

The A350-1000 features the Airspace cabin design, which Air Canada says supports passenger comfort on long-duration flights. The aircraft is designed to operate at lower cabin altitude levels and reduced cabin noise levels compared to previous generation aircraft.

Technology, efficiency and sustainability capability

The A350 incorporates advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials and latest-generation Rolls-Royce engines. Airbus states this combination delivers approximately 25 per cent lower fuel burn and emissions compared to previous generation competitor aircraft.

The aircraft is currently certified to operate with up to 50 per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus is targeting full 100 per cent SAF capability across its aircraft portfolio by 2030.

As of the end of January 2026, the A350 Family had accumulated more than 1,500 orders from 67 customers worldwide.
