Airbus has announced the creation of a new wholly owned subsidiary, Skywise, combining its existing Skywise digital platform with Navblue’s flight operations solutions into a single integrated entity.
The move, announced on 1 April 2026, reflects Airbus’ strategy to expand its digital services capabilities and provide end-to-end operational solutions across both Airbus and non-Airbus fleets.
INTEGRATION OF DIGITAL AND FLIGHT OPERATIONS CAPABILITIES
The newly formed Skywise subsidiary brings together two established digital service offerings:
- Skywise, Airbus’ data platform supporting aircraft performance and maintenance analytics
- Navblue, focused on flight operations solutions including navigation, flight planning, and operational efficiency
By consolidating these capabilities, Airbus aims to deliver integrated digital solutions spanning flight operations, technical performance, and ground-based systems.
The combined entity is intended to respond to increasing demand from operators for interoperable systems that can support complex operational environments.
GLOBAL OPERATIONS AND WORKFORCE
The Skywise subsidiary will operate across multiple regions, including Canada, France, India, Poland, Singapore, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The organisation will employ ap
proximately 750 personnel globally, reflecting the scale of Airbus’ investment in digital services as a core business segment.
STRATEGIC SHIFT TOWARDS DIGITAL SERVICES
Airbus has identified digital services as a key growth area within its broader services portfolio. The integration of Skywise and Navblue is positioned to strengthen Airbus’ role beyond manufacturing, extending into lifecycle support and operational optimisation.
The Skywise platform, which currently connects more than 12,000 aircraft, is evolving from a data management tool into a broader digital solutions ecosystem.
This transition aligns with Airbus’ long-term objective of increasing services revenue through digitalisation, while supporting operators in improving efficiency, reliability, and fleet performance.
OPERATIONAL IMPLICATIONS FOR AIRLINES
The consolidation of digital services into a single entity is expected to streamline access to operational data and decision-making tools for airlines.
By integrating technical, operational and flight data into a unified platform, Airbus aims to reduce fragmentation across systems and improve coordination between maintenance, operations and planning functions.
The approach reflects a wider industry shift towards data-driven operations and integrated digital infrastructure across airline ecosystems.
