AIRBUS, LEONARDO AND THALES JOIN FORCES TO CREATE A EUROPEAN SPACE POWERHOUSE

In a landmark move to strengthen Europe’s presence in the global space arena, Airbus, Leonardo and Thales have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to merge their space activities, paving the way for a unified and resilient European leader in the sector.

Major Italian and international newspapers have reported the announcement of a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Airbus, Leonardo, and Thales. The agreement aims to merge the space activities of the three companies into a single, integrated entity.

Through this collaboration, the partners seek to consolidate Europe’s strategic autonomy in space — a critical domain that underpins essential infrastructures and services such as telecommunications, global navigation, Earth observation, scientific research, exploration, and national security.

The newly formed company will unite the strengths of the three industrial giants to develop and deliver a comprehensive portfolio of complementary technologies and end-to-end solutions. By combining resources and expertise, the venture will create a robust and globally competitive player employing approximately 25,000 people across Europe.

This strategic consolidation reflects a shared commitment to advancing Europe’s space capabilities, ensuring resilience, innovation, and competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global market.
