AIRLINES DIVERT AS NIGER AIRSPACE CLOSES

Niger restricted its airspace on Sunday night, forcing some Airlines to divert their flights. Following a military coup in the Republic of Niger, leaders of the armed forces have shot the county’s airspace until further notice, citing the possibility of external military intervention. As a result, several flights in the region have been diverted, with some returning to their origin airports.

At least five British Airways flights were affected by Niger’s partial closure of airspace. These include services from, Cape Town and flights to Johannesburg.

Other airlines affected were Air France, KLM, and Deutsche Lufthansa AG also saw services diverted or delayed.

BA apologised to those customers affected by this disruption to their journeys and promised to get passengers on their way again as quickly as possible.”
