ASCEND AIRWAYS EXPANDS FLEET AND GLOBAL REACH WITH CANADIAN AOC APPROVAL

Ascend Airways, the UK-based ACMI and charter specialist, has marked a pivotal milestone in its growth trajectory with the addition of a fifth aircraft to its expanding fleet and the acquisition of a Canadian Foreign Air Operator Certificate (FAOC).

The newly delivered Boeing 737-8 MAX, registered G-ULIT, received its Certificate of Airworthiness on 3 June 2025 and is set to enter immediate service on a long-term wet lease. This marks the fourth 737-8 MAX to join Ascend Airways’ ranks—underscoring its strategic focus on deploying next-generation, fuel-efficient aircraft.

A member of Avia Solutions Group, the world’s largest ACMI provider, Ascend Airways is riding a wave of rapid expansion. Beginning 2025 with just two aircraft, the airline now boasts a fleet of five, with plans underway to grow that number to eight by year-end.

“I want to thank the entire team at Ascend Airways for their hard work and dedication in adding three aircraft over the past two months,” commented CEO Alastair Willson. “Our growing fleet positions us perfectly to meet the increasing demand for reliable ACMI services in the UK and other markets with the newest generation of aircraft.”

The Boeing 737-8 MAX is at the core of the airline’s sustainability and efficiency strategy. Compared to previous-generation aircraft, the MAX 8 offers a 20% reduction in CO₂ emissions and a 40% lower noise footprint—making it an attractive solution for customers looking to expand capacity while reducing environmental impact.

The newly acquired Canadian FAOC allows Ascend Airways to commence ACMI operations in Canada, aligning with the peak of the IATA Winter season when demand is high. The airline also reports current availability of 737-8 MAX aircraft for the Canadian market.

Meanwhile, Ascend Airways is finalising its FAA Part 129 approvals to begin operations in the United States and is progressing toward IOSA certification—strengthening its global operational capabilities.

Established in 2023 and commencing operations in 2024, Ascend Airways operates both ACMI and ad-hoc charter services with a modern fleet that includes the Boeing 737-800 and 737 MAX 8. Further international expansion is on the horizon through the upcoming launch of its sister carrier, Ascend Airways Malaysia, which will enhance operational flexibility across the UK, Europe, and Asia.
