BBN AIRLINES INDONESIA JOINS IATA AS IT PREPARES TO ADD AN AIRBUS A320

The Jakarta-based wet-lease and charter carrier has become an IATA member after securing its IOSA safety registration last year, as it plans to grow its two-aircraft Boeing 737-800 fleet with an Airbus A320 due in service by December.

IATA MEMBERSHIP MARKS NEXT STEP FOR JAKARTA CHARTER CARRIER

BBN Airlines Indonesia has joined the International Air Transport Association, becoming part of a global association representing more than 370 airlines across over 120 countries that together account for approximately 85 percent of global air traffic. Established in Jakarta in 2022, BBN Airlines Indonesia is a non-scheduled airline specialising in wet-lease and charter services across Indonesia and the broader Asia-Pacific region. IATA membership requires an airline to hold IATA Operational Safety Audit registration, which BBN Airlines Indonesia obtained in 2025.

The airline currently operates two Boeing 737-800 aircraft, registered PK-BBF and PK-BBG, and plans to add an Airbus A320 to its fleet, with commercial services expected to begin in December 2026. “We are proud to become part of the IATA network,” said Werry Orbani, chief executive officer of BBN Airlines Indonesia. “This membership represents an important step in our development as we continue expanding our wet-lease and charter operations. It strengthens our connection with the international aviation community and gives us an opportunity to contribute to industry discussions while continuing to provide reliable capacity solutions to our partners across Indonesia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.”

WHAT IOSA REGISTRATION SIGNALS

IOSA is IATA’s own operational safety audit programme, and holding a current registration is a prerequisite for membership. It functions as a recognised, independent benchmark of an airline’s safety management systems, which is why it typically precedes a membership application by some months, as it did here, with BBN Airlines Indonesia obtaining its registration in 2025 ahead of this year’s IATA membership. As a member, the airline will also be able to take part in IATA advisory groups and initiatives covering safety, operational efficiency and regulatory development.
