TROPIC AIR CHARTERS TAKES DELIVERY OF FIRST TECNAM P2012 TRAVELLER FOR BAHAMAS ROUTES

The Fort Lauderdale-based charter operator has taken delivery of its first Tecnam P2012 Traveller, the first of a two-aircraft order that begins phasing out its Britten-Norman Islanders on flights to the Bahamas.

FIRST OF TWO NEW TWINS ARRIVES FOR BAHAMAS CHARTER ROUTES

Tecnam has delivered the first P2012 Traveller to Tropic Air Charters, marked with an acceptance ceremony at Tecnam’s headquarters in Capua, Italy, where Tropic Air’s executive team travelled to review and receive the aircraft before its transatlantic ferry flight to Florida. The delivery is the first of a two-aircraft order announced earlier this year at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, and marks the start of Tropic Air’s fleet transition away from its Britten-Norman Islanders toward the newer type. “Traveling to Capua to see our first P2012 Traveller roll off the production line and complete the acceptance process in person was an incredible experience,” said Anthony Marinello, president of Tropic Air Charters. “The Italian craftsmanship and attention to detail are outstanding. Seeing the aircraft officially arrive on our ramp in Florida yesterday makes it all real. We are thrilled to introduce our clients to a completely elevated era of comfort, safety, and reliability for their Bahamian travels.”

WHY THE P2012 SUITS ISLAND-HOPPING

The P2012 Traveller is a twin-engine, turbocharged piston aircraft with short take-off and landing capability designed for exactly the kind of short, demanding runways found on the Bahamas’ outer islands, a role long filled by the Britten-Norman Islander that Tropic Air is now retiring. Twin-engine redundancy matters for the operator’s over-water routes between South Florida and the islands, and the cabin brings upgrades over the Islander, including air conditioning, USB charging and larger windows. “It is always a proud and special moment when we welcome a customer to our headquarters in Capua to hand over the keys, and even more exciting when that aircraft successfully touches down at its new home,” said Francesco Sferra, Tecnam’s P2012 Special Mission Platforms Sales & Business Development Manager. “Tropic Air Charters is dedicated to providing a premier travel experience in a high-frequency, island-hopping environment. We are honored to support their fleet transition.”

The aircraft will enter service in South Florida immediately, timed for the peak Bahamian travel season, with the second aircraft under the order still to follow.
