RIYADH AIR TAKES DELIVERY OF FIRST 787 AIRCRAFT

Boeing has delivered the first two 787 Dreamliner aircraft to Riyadh Air, marking a significant milestone for the Saudi Arabian carrier as it prepares to commence commercial operations.

The aircraft arrived in Riyadh following delivery from Boeing and represent the first units from Riyadh Air’s order for up to 72 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The airline plans to deploy the 787-9 on both regional and long-haul services as it develops its international network.

Riyadh Air Chief Executive Officer Tony Douglas described the arrival of the aircraft as a historic moment for both the airline and Saudi aviation.

“To see our very first custom-built 787 Dreamliner airplanes touch down in Riyadh is a historic moment for us, and a momentous day for Saudi aviation,” Douglas said.

SUPPORTING SAUDI ARABIA’S AVIATION AMBITIONS

The deliveries form part of Saudi Arabia’s broader aviation strategy, which aims to attract 150 million visitors and serve 330 million passengers annually by 2030.

According to Boeing, Riyadh Air’s planned fleet of up to 72 Dreamliners will play a central role in connecting the Kingdom with regional and international markets across Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.

The airline intends to operate services to more than 100 destinations by 2030, with early routes expected to include London, Cairo and Jeddah.

787 TO FORM FOUNDATION OF NETWORK GROWTH

Stephanie Pope, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said the Dreamliner would provide Riyadh Air with the operational flexibility required to support its growth plans.

She noted that the aircraft offers efficiency and route flexibility while providing passengers with a modern onboard experience.

The Boeing 787 family has become a key long-haul aircraft type for airlines worldwide, supporting a wide range of routes through improved fuel efficiency and operational performance.

NEW GATEWAY FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

The arrival of the first aircraft marks an important step in Riyadh Air’s preparations for launch and reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued investment in expanding its aviation sector and international connectivity.

As the carrier builds its fleet and route network, the airline is expected to play a significant role in supporting the Kingdom’s long-term tourism, economic development and transport objectives.
