Delta Air Lines orders up to 60 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners to modernise its widebody fleet, expand international routes, and enhance passenger comfort and efficiency.
Seattle, 13 January 2026 – Delta Air Lines has placed a landmark order for up to 60 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, marking its first direct 787 purchase and signalling a major step in modernising its widebody fleet. The U.S. carrier has confirmed an initial order of 30 787-10 aircraft, with an option to acquire 30 more of the largest 787 variant.
The ultra-efficient jets, capable of carrying up to 336 passengers, will support Delta’s international growth strategy, particularly on high-demand transatlantic and South American routes. The 787-10 features 25% lower fuel consumption than the aircraft it replaces, while offering passengers a superior experience through larger windows and cabin air pressurised at a lower altitude to improve comfort and reduce fatigue.
“Delta is building the fleet for the future, enhancing the customer experience, driving operational improvements and providing steady replacements for less efficient, older aircraft in the decade to come,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. “Most importantly, these aircraft will be operated by the best aviation professionals in the industry, providing Delta’s welcoming, elevated and caring service to travellers worldwide.”
Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Stephanie Pope added, “We are excited that Delta Air Lines has selected the 787-10 to join its fleet of the future. The 787 Dreamliner’s unmatched efficiency, range, and passenger comfort make it a perfect fit for Delta’s international expansion and fleet modernisation. Our team looks forward to delivering new Dreamliners to Delta and supporting their commitments to provide an exceptional passenger experience and advance sustainability in aviation.”
With more than 460 Boeing aircraft already in service, Delta has operated nearly every Boeing single-aisle and widebody model across its domestic and international network. The latest Dreamliner order increases Delta’s firm order book to 130 Boeing jets, including 100 737-10s, strengthening a long-standing partnership that also supports U.S. aerospace jobs across Boeing’s supply chain.
Delta’s new widebody fleet promises not only greater operational efficiency but also enhanced passenger experience and network flexibility, as the airline continues to expand and diversify its global routes.
