Sydney, 28 October 2025 — Counter-drone technology specialist DroneShield has published a new white paper titled “Best Practices for Counter-Drone Deployment at Civil Airports,” addressing the rising threat of unauthorised drones in aviation environments. The company has also announced a partnership with SRI Group, an aviation security consultancy, to deliver independent Counter-UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) threat and risk assessments for airports.
The publication comes amid increasing incidents of drones disrupting airport operations. In one recent event, Copenhagen Airport was forced to suspend flights after unauthorised drones entered restricted airspace, resulting in 77 flight cancellations and 217 delays. The incident caused significant operational and financial repercussions for airlines, including diverted flights and passenger accommodation costs.
DroneShield’s white paper outlines the current landscape of drone-related threats, providing insight into the technological solutions available to detect, track, and neutralise unauthorised UAS activity. It also presents recommended frameworks for risk mitigation, supporting airport authorities and policymakers in establishing effective airspace protection strategies.
According to DroneShield, the release is intended to promote informed decision-making in counter-drone policy and operations. As drone use continues to expand across both commercial and recreational sectors, the company emphasises the need for proactive security measures to safeguard civil aviation infrastructure.
By partnering with SRI Group, DroneShield aims to combine advanced counter-UAS technology with independent security expertise to deliver tailored assessments for airports facing evolving drone threats.
