ELFLY SECURES URBANLINK ORDER FOR NOEMI ELECTRIC SEAPLANE

Norwegian electric seaplane developer Elfly has secured a US order from UrbanLink for up to 20 NOEMI amphibious aircraft, supporting zero-emissions coastal and regional operations in Florida and nearby markets.

Norwegian electric seaplane developer Elfly has announced an agreement with Florida-based zero-emissions mobility operator UrbanLink for the purchase of 10 NOEMI amphibious aircraft, with options for a further 10. The contract value could reach up to US$200 million.

The announcement marks Elfly’s first confirmed commercial foothold in the United States market. According to both companies, the all-electric NOEMI aircraft is well suited to Florida’s operating environment.

Technology and operational fit

Speaking to AeroTime, Elfly CEO Eric Lithun cited Florida’s favourable year-round weather conditions as a strong match for electric seaplane operations. UrbanLink CEO Edward Wegel highlighted the environmental advantages of electric aviation, extending beyond emissions to include reduced noise and the elimination of fuel and oil leakage risks.

Lithun noted that conventional aircraft can pose contamination risks to fragile tropical environments through leaks and noise pollution. In an all-electric aircraft such as the NOEMI, these impacts are reduced to near zero.

Target markets in Florida and the Caribbean

UrbanLink’s initial focus is the intra-Florida market, with potential routes linking major transport and tourism hubs. These include Miami International Airport, Palm Beach, and cruise terminals at Port Miami and Port Canaveral.

The company is also working with cruise operators to provide connections between South Florida and private islands in the Bahamian archipelago. These services would carry not only leisure passengers but also crew and logistical supplies.

In addition, UrbanLink has expressed interest in a longer-range version of the NOEMI that could support routes to destinations such as Jacksonville in northern Florida.

Addressing this possibility, Lithun stated that Elfly’s current business proposition is based on an aircraft with a range of approximately 200 km. While longer range capability is technically feasible, he emphasised a preference to “under promise and overdeliver”.
