UAE awards Embraer a contract for up to 20 C-390 Millennium aircraft, marking the platform’s first Middle East selection and boosting airlift capability.
Order for up to 20 aircraft strengthens UAE’s multi-mission airlift capability
The UAE has selected the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft, with Tawazun Council awarding a contract to Embraer for 10 firm aircraft and 10 additional options.
The agreement marks the first selection of the C-390 Millennium in the Middle East and represents the largest international order for the aircraft from a single country.
OPERATIONAL CAPABILITY EXPANSION
The acquisition is intended to strengthen the operational airlift capability of the UAE Air Force and Air Defense across a range of mission profiles.
The C-390 Millennium is designed to support:
- Cargo and troop transport
- Airdrop operations
- Medical evacuation
- Humanitarian missions
- Operations from unpaved runways
The aircraft will also enhance interoperability with allied and partner forces, reflecting the UAE’s requirement for multi-mission flexibility in complex operational environments.
LOCAL MRO AND INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT
As part of the programme, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capability, along with after-sales support, will be developed in collaboration with a national Emirati company.
This aligns with the UAE’s broader strategy to strengthen its domestic defence industrial base while supporting long-term fleet sustainment.
SELECTION THROUGH OPERATIONAL EVALUATION
The C-390 Millennium was selected following a comprehensive evaluation process, including testing under UAE operational conditions.
According to Tawazun Council, the aircraft was chosen based on its ability to meet mission requirements while optimising operational efficiency and lifecycle costs.
MARKET POSITIONING
The order represents a significant milestone for the C-390 Millennium programme, extending its footprint into the Middle East market.
For Embraer, the contract strengthens the aircraft’s position in the global tactical airlift segment, particularly among air forces seeking multi-role capability combined with modern operational efficiency.
