EUROPE PRIVATE JET DEMAND SET TO RISE AHEAD OF SUMMER PEAK

Private jet demand in Europe is expected to rise sharply ahead of the summer 2026 peak, driven by seasonal travel trends, regional demand shifts, and evolving customer behaviour.

SEASONAL DEMAND DRIVES BUSINESS AVIATION ACTIVITY

According to industry observations, business jet traffic across Europe typically rises sharply between April and July, with peak activity increasing by as much as 70% during the summer period. This seasonal trend has remained consistent over recent years, including during periods of disruption such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Year-on-year data supports this pattern. Across Europe, combined business jet and turboprop activity rose by 0.8% in February 2026, with a year-to-date increase of 0.6% compared to the same period in 2025.

REGIONAL VARIATIONS AND MARKET SHARE

While Europe continues to see steady growth, it remains a smaller contributor to global business aviation activity. Year-to-date in 2026, Europe accounts for 11.2% of global business jet departures, compared to North America’s 68.5% share.

Within the European market, the United Kingdom leads in private aviation departures, followed by France, Germany and Italy. Notably, Italy has recorded a significant increase of approximately 20% in activity, supported by seasonal travel demand linked to winter tourism and major events.

SHIFTING TRAVEL PATTERNS AND COST PRESSURES

Changes in global travel dynamics are influencing private aviation usage. Increased fuel costs are affecting long-haul private travel decisions, with some clients opting to use scheduled airline services for intercontinental legs before continuing via private aircraft within Europe.

At the same time, regional travel demand within Europe is strengthening. This is partly attributed to differences in comfort levels between widebody aircraft on long-haul routes and narrowbody aircraft commonly used on intra-European services. As a result, some travellers are choosing private aviation for regional journeys where commercial alternatives may offer limited comfort.

Geopolitical factors are also contributing to evolving travel patterns, with demand increasingly concentrated within European destinations.

AIRCRAFT DEMAND AND AVAILABILITY

Aircraft availability across most private jet categories remains stable, although pricing is expected to fluctuate as peak demand approaches.

Light jets such as the Cessna Citation CJ2 remain popular for shorter sectors of up to three hours, typically accommodating up to six passengers. Midsize aircraft such as the Citation XLS are commonly used for intra-European travel, while larger aircraft including the Embraer Praetor 600 are selected for longer-range journeys requiring additional comfort and performance.

Helicopter demand is expected to be more constrained, particularly around major summer events such as Royal Ascot and the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, where point-to-point access and proximity to venues drive demand.

EARLY BOOKING AND EVENT-DRIVEN TRAVEL

Operators are advising clients to secure bookings early, particularly for event-driven travel where airport slots and aircraft availability may become limited.

Advance planning is increasingly common, with some summer travel requests being confirmed several months ahead of departure. High-profile events such as the Monaco Grand Prix continue to generate concentrated demand for private aviation services, often requiring coordinated logistics beyond flight arrangements.

OUTLOOK FOR SUMMER 2026

Demand for private aviation across Europe is expected to follow the steady upward trend observed in recent years. However, ongoing market volatility, particularly related to fuel costs, may influence travel behaviour and pricing dynamics.

Despite these factors, underlying demand for private aviation services remains strong, supported by seasonal travel patterns, evolving customer preferences, and continued demand for flexibility and efficiency in travel.
