EUROPEAN PARTNERS FORM ALLIANCE FOR POLAND’S DEFENCE SATELLITE PROGRAMME

Thales Alenia Space, Airbus Defence and Space and RADMOR will develop a geostationary defence satellite for Poland, strengthening secure military communications and national space sovereignty.

Gdansk, 20 April 2026 – Thales Alenia Space, Airbus Defence and Space, and RADMOR have signed an industrial cooperation agreement to develop a geostationary defence telecommunications satellite for Poland’s Ministry of National Defence.

The programme forms part of the European Commission’s ‘Readiness 2030’ initiative and is aimed at strengthening secure communications capabilities for the Polish Armed Forces in an increasingly contested operational environment.

FOCUS ON SECURE MILITARY COMMUNICATIONS

The planned satellite will provide resilient and secure communications across both ground and space segments, with an emphasis on cybersecurity and resistance to interference. The system is designed to operate in high-threat environments, reflecting the growing importance of protected communications in modern military operations.

The project will combine expertise across the three partners, including military communications payloads, satellite platform design, mission control systems, and secure ground infrastructure.

Thales Alenia Space, which will lead the cooperation, stated that the system will incorporate high levels of resilience, cybersecurity, and anti-jamming capability to meet current defence requirements.

EUROPEAN INDUSTRIAL COOPERATION

The partnership reflects a broader European approach to defence capability development, bringing together established aerospace and defence manufacturers with national industry.

Airbus Defence and Space highlighted the programme as a continuation of its long-standing collaboration with Poland’s defence sector, reinforcing cross-border industrial cooperation in space-based security systems.

RADMOR, part of WB Group, will contribute its experience in secure communications systems and ground infrastructure, supporting integration with Poland’s existing defence networks.

SUPPORTING NATIONAL SPACE SOVEREIGNTY

The satellite system is expected to play a key role in strengthening Poland’s national space sovereignty, ensuring continuity and security of communications across military operations.

With increasing reliance on space-based infrastructure in defence operations, the programme reflects a shift towards integrated, end-to-end systems designed to maintain operational capability in contested environments.
