FLYSAFAIR ADDRESSES PILOT OPEN LETTER WITH FOCUS ON UNITY AND CONSTRUCTIVE DIALOGUE

Johannesburg – 29 July 2025 – FlySafair has responded to the open letter issued by a group of pilots represented by the Solidarity union, acknowledging the emotion and concern expressed in the communication. The airline emphasised that it respects the right of employee groups to share their views and reiterated its focus on solutions rather than confrontation.

“This is a difficult moment, and it’s clear that both sides care deeply about their positions,” FlySafair said in a statement. “We will not engage in point-by-point rebuttals or counterclaims. Our focus is not on winning arguments—it is on finding resolution.”

The airline reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the long-term health of the business, supporting employee wellbeing, and restoring unity within its team. FlySafair confirmed that it will continue to participate in the CCMA-guided negotiation process in good faith, as it has throughout the dispute.

Acknowledging the importance of working conditions, the airline highlighted its existing rostering rules that provide pilots with guaranteed weekends off. The most recent settlement proposal, which was rejected by the union, would have gone further by creating an independently chaired committee to allow pilots to directly shape roster policies.

In its communication, FlySafair stressed its intention to remain focused and constructive in a polarised public discourse. “To all our colleagues across FlySafair, and to the public who trusts us to get them home safely: you deserve an airline that remains focused, calm, and determined to do the right thing under pressure. We are committed to building a future that our team can feel proud of—together.”
