GOGO CONFIRMS NEW PLANE SIMPLE KU-BAND STC AS AIRX UPGRADES FLEET OF BOMBARDIER CHALLENGER 850

AirX upgrades its Bombardier Challenger 850 fleet with Gogo Plane Simple Ku-band terminals, enabling high-speed inflight connectivity and securing a new EASA Supplemental Type Certificate.

Connectivity upgrade introduces high-speed inflight internet capability across AirX fleet

LONDON STANSTED – AirX has confirmed it is upgrading inflight connectivity across its fleet of Bombardier Challenger 850 aircraft through the installation of the Gogo Plane Simple Ku-band terminal supplied by Gogo.

The installation forms part of a customised service plan developed by Gogo to meet AirX’s operational requirements while ensuring passengers have access to high-speed inflight connectivity.

The service package includes Pay-As-You-Go airtime for broadband connectivity. AirX is also utilising Sky Ticket Credit Card technology, allowing the operator to provide connectivity services on demand.

FIRST AIRCRAFT EQUIPPED AND CERTIFIED

To date, two Bombardier Challenger 850 aircraft have been fitted with the Plane Simple Ku-band terminal and are fully operational.

The first installation was managed by Alamo Engineering at AirX’s London Stansted facility. The installation resulted in the issuance of a new EASA Supplemental Type Certificate for the aircraft type.

The upgrade programme represents the first phase of a wider initiative to equip the AirX fleet with consistent, high-speed connectivity capability.

The system allows the operator to control and manage passenger connectivity through a dedicated portal, enabling access to onboard high-speed Wi-Fi.

CONNECTIVITY UPGRADE DESIGNED TO MINIMISE DOWNTIME

Houssam Hazzoury, Group Chief Executive Officer of AirX, said demand for the company’s charter services continues to increase, with each aircraft currently averaging around 900 flight hours per year.

He noted that minimising operational downtime is a key factor behind the upgrade programme. The design of the Gogo antenna series allows installations to be completed with minimal disruption while providing reliable global connectivity.

The ability to access end-to-end connectivity management and support through a single provider also influenced the operator’s decision.

SUPPORT AND TRAINING FOR AIRX OPERATIONS

Following installation on the first two aircraft, Gogo delivered its Entry-into-Service support programme at the AirX UK facility, supported by system training for AirX personnel based in Malta.

The training ensures crew and operational teams are familiar with the connectivity system and able to manage potential coverage interruptions while assisting passengers in accessing onboard services.

AirX will also receive continuous technical support through a 24-hour, year-round customer assistance service.

AirX’s charter clients include global brands, major corporations, government officials and heads of state.
