GULFSTREAM’S G400 BEGINS A NEW CHAPTER IN BUSINESS AVIATION

Gulfstream Aerospace has taken a significant step forward in the development of its G400, marking the official beginning of the flight test program for the large-cabin jet. On August 15, the G400 successfully completed its first flight, taking off from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (KSAV) at 9:04 a.m. and returning just under three hours later. During the flight, the aircraft reached a top speed of Mach 0.85 and climbed to an altitude of 41,000 feet, all while using Gulfstream’s supply of blended sustainable aviation fuel.

Announced in 2021 alongside the ultra-long-range G800, the G400 represents Gulfstream’s continued expansion of its product lineup, bringing the total number of models to six. The G400 is powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney Canada PW812GA engines, enabling it to fly 4,200 nautical miles at Mach 0.85. The aircraft also boasts advanced features, including the high-speed wing and winglet design shared with its G500 and G600 siblings, as well as the Symmetry flight deck and a predictive landing performance system.

For those interested in experiencing the G400’s capabilities firsthand, Gulfstream offers full-scale cabin mockups at its Savannah headquarters and its sales and design center in Los Angeles. The cabin, which can accommodate up to 12 passengers, showcases the luxurious and efficient design that Gulfstream is known for.

“The completion of the first flight marks a significant milestone for the G400,” said Mark Burns, president of Gulfstream Aerospace. “It demonstrates, yet again, the maturity of Gulfstream’s new aircraft programs and the advantages created by the intentionally designed commonalities shared across our next-generation fleet.”

As the G400 progresses through its flight test program, it is set to further establish Gulfstream’s reputation for innovation and excellence in the business aviation sector.
