Inselflieger has taken delivery of a second Tecnam P2012 STOL aircraft following the successful introduction of its first aircraft, supporting continued fleet modernisation and regional island connectivity in Germany.
German island carrier expands fleet following successful integration of first P2012 STOL aircraft
SECOND AIRCRAFT ADDED TO MODERNISATION PROGRAMME
Tecnam has delivered a second P2012 STOL aircraft to FLN FRISIA-Luftverkehr GmbH Norddeich (Inselflieger), further expanding the German operator’s fleet serving the East Frisian Islands.
The delivery follows the successful introduction of the airline’s first P2012 STOL, which entered service in April 2025. According to Tecnam, the aircraft’s operational performance, reliability and passenger acceptance played a significant role in the decision to acquire a second example.
Inselflieger transports more than 70,000 passengers annually between mainland Germany and the East Frisian Islands, operating routes that require aircraft capable of using short runways and operating in challenging coastal conditions.
DESIGNED FOR CHALLENGING ISLAND OPERATIONS
The Tecnam P2012 STOL was developed to provide enhanced short take-off and landing performance while offering increased passenger comfort and modern avionics.
According to the operator, the aircraft has integrated seamlessly into daily operations while demonstrating high reliability in demanding weather conditions along Germany’s North Sea coastline.
Bruno Warkentin, Nominated Person Continuing Airworthiness at Inselflieger, said the aircraft had exceeded expectations since entering service.
He noted that the P2012 STOL had proven to be a robust, efficient and passenger-friendly platform, while pilots had responded positively to its avionics and operational capabilities.
FOCUS ON PASSENGER COMFORT AND OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY
The twin-engine P2012 STOL features a nine-passenger cabin and is designed to operate from some of the shortest commercial runways in service.
Tecnam said the aircraft combines operational flexibility with modern cabin standards and enhanced safety features, making it well suited to regional and island transport missions.
Francesco Sferra, Tecnam P2012 Special Mission Platforms Sales & Business Development Manager, said a repeat order from an operator working in demanding environmental conditions represented an important endorsement of the aircraft’s capabilities.
SUPPORTING ISLAND CONNECTIVITY
The addition of the second aircraft is expected to help Inselflieger optimise scheduling, improve operational flexibility and continue modernising its island-hopping services.
The airline said the expanded fleet will support reliable and comfortable transport for both residents and visitors travelling between the German mainland and the East Frisian Islands.
