Basra Airlines, Iraq’s newest private carrier, which commenced commercial operations in April 2026, has selected Maureva’s EDGAR Managed Services platform to manage its revenue accounting operations, providing financial discipline and scalable processes as the Baghdad-based airline begins expanding its network.
REVENUE ACCOUNTING PARTNERSHIP SUPPORTS BASRA AIRLINES FROM THE GROUND UP
Basra Airlines, Iraq’s newest private airline, has selected the EDGAR Managed Services solution from Mauritius-based Maureva to manage its revenue accounting operations, as the carrier moves from its start-up phase into a period of commercial network expansion. Founded in 2022 by Mr Moffak Sabir Hamad and headquartered in Baghdad, Basra Airlines operates under IATA code BH from Baghdad International Airport. The airline was awarded its Air Operator Certificate by the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority in December 2025 and commenced commercial operations with its inaugural flight on 23 April 2026, following a comprehensive preparation period covering aircraft acquisition, operational planning, crew training and regulatory approvals.
Sam Issac, CFO of Basra Airlines, said that as a new airline, establishing strong partnerships from the outset was essential to building a sustainable and scalable operation. He said Maureva had been selected for its proven technology solutions, experienced aviation professionals and deep industry expertise, and that through EDGAR Managed Services, Maureva would provide the financial oversight and operational support required to support the airline’s growth strategy, enhance efficiency and strengthen its expanding network.
EDGAR MANAGED SERVICES: CAPABILITY AND RATIONALE
EDGAR Managed Services provides Basra Airlines with a dedicated team of revenue accounting specialists, well-established industry processes and continuous operational support, enabling the airline’s management team to focus on network development and commercial expansion rather than the technical complexity of revenue accounting infrastructure. The solution combines Maureva’s proven revenue accounting platform with specialist staffing, maintaining full financial control and revenue stream visibility for the airline while reducing the internal operational workload associated with managing those functions in-house — a particularly relevant arrangement for a young airline where senior management bandwidth is at a premium.
Romain Angella, Chief Commercial Officer at Maureva, said supporting an airline from the early stages of its development was particularly rewarding, as it allowed Maureva to contribute directly to building strong financial foundations for future growth. He said EDGAR Managed Services gave airlines immediate access to mature revenue accounting processes, experienced specialists and proven technology, allowing them to focus on expanding their business while Maureva ensured the accuracy and integrity of their revenue accounting operations. Basra Airlines plans to expand its fleet with two to four additional narrowbody aircraft in the near term and has stated ambitions to introduce Airbus A330 freighter aircraft to support passenger, cargo, charter and helicopter operations across Iraq and the wider region. The partnership strengthens Maureva’s presence in the Middle East, where an increasing number of carriers are turning to outsourced revenue accounting solutions to support rapid expansion.
