MINISTER OF TRANSPORT ENGAGES IN HIGH-LEVEL TALKS AT GISS

Abu Dhabi, UAE – South Africa’s Minister of Transport, Ms. Barbara Creecy, actively participated in bilateral discussions with key international aviation stakeholders at the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS). Held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, the high-profile event saw engagements with representatives from the European Union, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, as well as the President and Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

During the Ministers’ Roundtable on the opening day of the symposium, Ms. Creecy underscored the urgency of addressing the aviation sector’s critical skills shortage. She called for concerted efforts to build a strong pipeline of aviation professionals, particularly in developing nations where capacity constraints pose significant challenges to the industry’s growth.

Highlighting ICAO’s pivotal role in fostering global partnerships, Ms. Creecy emphasised the need for strengthened collaboration among Member States to enhance capacity development initiatives. Her remarks resonated with the broader theme of GISS, which serves as a platform for aviation leaders to discuss strategies for sustainable growth and effective implementation of aviation support frameworks worldwide.

With skills development at the forefront of global aviation concerns, Ms. Creecy’s participation in these discussions reaffirms South Africa’s commitment to playing an active role in shaping the future of international air transport.
