NORTHROP GRUMMAN BEGINS E-2D ADVANCED HAWKEYE PRODUCTION FOR FRANCE

AUGUSTINE, FL – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has officially commenced production of the first E-2D Advanced Hawkeye for the French Navy. In a ceremony at the company’s St. Augustine manufacturing facility, representatives from Northrop Grumman, the French Navy, Naval Air Systems Command, and the Navy International Programs Office gathered to mark the start of this milestone project.

France is set to become the second nation globally to operate the E-2D, a cutting-edge airborne command and control (AEW&C) aircraft. This move underscores the French Navy’s commitment to maintaining its strategic air defense capabilities while strengthening its longstanding partnership with Northrop Grumman.

Advancing Airborne Command and Control

Northrop Grumman is contracted to deliver three E-2D Advanced Hawkeyes to the French Navy, with the first aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2027. The E-2D will replace France’s current fleet of E-2C Hawkeye 2000s, which have served as the backbone of the nation’s carrier-based early warning and control operations for over 25 years.

“The E-2D represents a generational leap in airborne command and control technology,” said Janice Zilch, vice president of multi-domain command and control programs at Northrop Grumman. “Our partnership with France goes back over two decades. We are proud to continue supporting the French Navy with the world’s most advanced AEW platform.”

Enhancements for a Modern Fleet

The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye offers significant improvements over its predecessors, including the ability for aerial refuelling, extending its operational endurance and versatility. Designed to excel in both land and sea environments, the E-2D is a critical asset for situational awareness and command in complex, high-threat environments.

The French Navy’s adoption of the E-2D builds on its legacy of interoperability with U.S. forces, particularly in exercises that integrate carrier-based operations. As the only nation outside the United States to operate Hawkeye aircraft from an aircraft carrier, France’s strategic partnership with Northrop Grumman enhances the capabilities of the Charles de Gaulle carrier strike group.

A Legacy of Excellence

Northrop Grumman’s E-2 series has been a cornerstone of global air defence for over six decades, with continuous advancements ensuring it remains ahead of emerging threats. The company maintains a 100% on-time delivery rate for E-2D production, demonstrating its commitment to excellence and innovation.

The E-2D’s advanced radar systems, robust communication capabilities, and adaptability make it the premier AEW&C aircraft for modern military operations. With active production lines and a focus on future threats, the E-2D continues to lead the field in airborne command and control.

Looking Ahead

The production of France’s E-2D Advanced Hawkeye not only solidifies its position as a leader in carrier-based early warning and control but also strengthens its interoperability with allied forces. This program is a testament to Northrop Grumman’s role as a trusted partner in equipping the world’s navies with the tools needed to address evolving global challenges.
