Saudia Cargo has taken a significant step to strengthen its global logistics network with the induction of an Airbus A330-300P2F freighter via a wet lease agreement with ASL Aviation Holdings. Announced on 14 August 2025, this move marks the arrival of the first of two converted A330 freighters to be operated initially by ASL Airlines Ireland, highlighting the growing collaboration between the two firms.
The aircraft (MSN 1272), formerly registered as N810CM, arrived at Shannon Airport in June following its passenger-to-freighter (P2F) conversion and repaint into Saudia Cargo livery. Now registered as EI-LKD, it will begin service with ASL Airlines Ireland in September 2025 before being transferred to Saudia Cargo in the fourth quarter. A second A330-300P2F is due to follow later this year.
The ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance) lease agreement ensures full operational support, including maintenance and crew, and sees ASL reintroduce the A330 freighter into its Irish operation for the first time in several years. The aircraft will operate across ASL’s extensive global network of over 50 destinations spanning Europe, North America, and Asia, complementing the group’s current fleet of Boeing 737s and ATR72 freighters.
The A330-300P2F offers a significant boost in capacity, capable of carrying up to 62 tonnes of payload and covering distances of up to 6,850 km. With 26 pallets on the main deck and space for a further 11 pallets (or 32 LD3 containers) in the lower hold, the type is well suited to both express parcels and heavier freight, making it ideal for e-commerce and time-sensitive cargo.
Eng. Loay Mashabi, CEO and Managing Director of Saudia Cargo, emphasised the strategic nature of the expansion: “Expanding our capacity and global reach is a strategic imperative for Saudia Cargo, ensuring uninterrupted supply chains for our customers. The integration of this A330-300P2F, in partnership with ASL Aviation Holdings, will significantly support our network capabilities… and solidifies the Kingdom’s role as a global logistics hub.”
Dave Andrew, Chief Executive of ASL Aviation Holdings, echoed this sentiment, saying: “This partnership is a positive statement for ASL as we continue to strengthen and grow… providing a flexible solution to meet the diverse shipping needs of its customers and deliver reliable, high-quality cargo services.”
This fleet expansion aligns with Saudia Cargo’s broader goal to reinforce its position as a leading global logistics provider, while ASL Aviation benefits from the enhanced capacity and operational flexibility offered by the A330-300P2F.
