Aircraft enters service following regulatory approval

Tecnam and Airtask Group have announced the successful introduction of the Tecnam P2012 Traveller on the Stornoway-Benbecula Public Service Obligation (PSO) route in Scotland. Operating under registration G-CMCY, the aircraft entered active service in April 2026 following completion of the required proving flights and certification processes with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The aircraft, leased to Airtask Group, now supports essential air connectivity between Scottish island communities that depend on regular air services for passenger transport and access to critical services. The introduction of the P2012 represents a fleet modernisation initiative aimed at improving operational reliability while enhancing the passenger experience on short regional sectors.

OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE AND NETWORK MODERNISATION

Platform selected for short-sector and remote operations

According to Airtask Group, the P2012 Traveller’s operational characteristics make it well suited to high-frequency regional operations and remote air services. Prior to entering service, the aircraft successfully completed its proving flight programme with the UK CAA and was subsequently added to the company’s Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC).

Since commencing scheduled operations, Airtask reports that the aircraft has performed successfully on the route, with passenger feedback supporting the company’s wider strategy to modernise its regional services network. The operator noted that the aircraft’s design combines operational efficiency with the capability required for challenging operating environments.

Rachel Ford, Director of Operations at Airtask Group, said the introduction of the aircraft would support the continued provision of essential regional air links while improving passenger comfort and operational reliability on services to remote communities.

SUPPORTING ESSENTIAL REGIONAL AIR SERVICES

Aircraft designed for demanding regional environments

Tecnam highlighted the strategic importance of the Stornoway-Benbecula route, noting that the operational profile aligns closely with the design objectives of the P2012 Traveller programme. According to the manufacturer, the aircraft was developed to provide reliability, operational efficiency and robustness for short-haul regional and remote-area operations.

Oriens Aviation, Tecnam’s authorised representative in the United Kingdom, supported the introduction of the aircraft into service. The company noted that the P2012 platform offers capabilities suited to regional and island operations, particularly in challenging weather environments, while also providing improvements in passenger accommodation and operational flexibility.

The deployment of the P2012 on the Stornoway-Benbecula PSO route represents a further example of fleet renewal activity within the regional aviation sector, where operators continue to seek modern aircraft capable of supporting essential air services in remote and geographically challenging regions.
