Textron Aviation has completed an expansion of its flight test hangar at the company’s East Wichita Campus, increasing capacity to support growing demand for the Cessna SkyCourier and ongoing development programmes across its turboprop aircraft portfolio. The development adds 57,000 square feet of additional space, including six new hangar bays, significantly increasing the company’s flight test capabilities.
EXPANDED CAPACITY FOR GROWING OPERATIONS
The enlarged facility has been developed to accommodate increasing flight test activity associated with the twin-engine Cessna SkyCourier while also supporting continued entry-into-service and development work for the Beechcraft Denali. According to Textron Aviation, the additional capacity will allow teams to conduct multiple test programmes simultaneously and improve operational efficiency throughout the testing process.
The company noted that demand for the SkyCourier continues to expand across commercial passenger, cargo and special mission markets, driving the need for additional infrastructure and resources.
SUPPORTING A BROADER RANGE OF MISSIONS
Designed as a versatile utility aircraft, the Cessna SkyCourier serves passenger, freight and special mission operators through multiple configuration options. Recent developments include expansion into defence and special mission applications, supported by the aircraft’s first military order and the introduction of an in-flight operable door option aimed at increasing operational flexibility.
Textron Aviation said the additional hangar space will enable flight test teams to improve the flow between aircraft preparation, testing, data collection and evaluation, supporting a growing range of mission requirements worldwide.
FOCUS ON EFFICIENCY AND SUSTAINABILITY
The expanded facility incorporates energy-efficient LED lighting and high-efficiency building systems designed to reduce energy consumption while supporting intensive flight test activities. The company said these measures form part of its broader commitment to responsible operational practices.
