THALES TO MODERNISE NINE ATC RADARS ACROSS BRAZIL

Thales, through its Brazilian subsidiary Omnisys, has signed a significant new contract with the Commission for the Implementation of the Brazilian Airspace Control System (CISCEA) to modernise nine air traffic control (ATC) radar systems across the country.

CISCEA, operating under the Brazilian Air Force’s Airspace Control Department (DECEA), continues its ongoing effort to enhance Brazil’s air navigation infrastructure. This latest contract marks another step forward, with the installation of a new radar station at Presidente Prudente Airport in São Paulo, bringing the total number of Thales ATC radars operational in Brazilian airspace to an impressive 133.

The modernisation programme will see the integration of cutting-edge radar technology capable of 3D detection for both low- and high-speed targets—enhancing situational awareness and safety in Brazil’s increasingly dynamic airspace.

The systems will feature Mode S and ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast) capabilities, allowing for the improved identification of cooperative and non-cooperative aircraft. These enhancements aim to provide more precise, real-time tracking, contributing to smoother and safer air traffic management across the region.

In addition, the upgraded radar stations will incorporate electronic protection mechanisms designed to counter electromagnetic interference, ensuring continued operational efficiency in challenging surveillance environments.

This initiative underlines Thales’ ongoing commitment to supporting Brazil’s airspace management with robust, future-ready technology, reinforcing the nation’s position as a leader in aerospace safety and innovation in Latin America.
