Tunisia has joined a multi-country tourism initiative, TOICE 2026 (Tourism & Open International Connectivity for Africa), alongside Morocco, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and South Africa, with the programme aimed at enabling simplified multi-country travel across participating destinations.
PLATFORM STRUCTURE AND PARTICIPATION
Multi-country tourism coordination
The TOICE 2026 platform brings together eight African countries to facilitate coordinated tourism offerings through a single booking framework. The initiative is designed to simplify itinerary planning across multiple destinations, which has historically required separate bookings and complex travel arrangements.
Participating countries include South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia and Uganda, each contributing established tourism assets ranging from heritage sites to wildlife and coastal destinations.
AIR AND HOSPITALITY PARTNERSHIPS
Air connectivity via Qatar Airways
According to the announcement, Qatar Airways will support the initiative by providing air connectivity between participating countries via its Doha hub. The airline’s existing network is expected to facilitate routing between key African cities included in the programme.
Accommodation support through Marriott
Marriott is participating as the primary hospitality partner, providing accommodation options across multiple destinations. The group’s presence in major cities such as Cairo, Nairobi and Cape Town is expected to support standardised lodging availability within the platform framework.
OPERATIONAL INTENT AND TRAVEL MODEL
Single-platform booking approach
The TOICE initiative is structured to allow travellers to book multi-country itineraries through a consolidated system. This model is intended to reduce administrative complexity associated with cross-border tourism within Africa.
The programme also includes packaged travel options designed to combine multiple destinations into a single itinerary, integrating flights and accommodation.
REGIONAL TOURISM CONTEXT
Positioning of participating markets
The countries included in TOICE represent a mix of established and emerging tourism markets. Egypt, Morocco and South Africa continue to attract high visitor volumes linked to heritage and wildlife tourism, while Kenya and Uganda remain key safari destinations.
Tunisia and Ghana are positioned within the programme as coastal and cultural destinations, contributing to route diversity across the network.
PROGRAMME OUTLOOK
Expansion potential
According to the initiative outline, TOICE is expected to expand to include additional African countries over time, increasing the scope of multi-country travel options available through the platform.
The programme is positioned as a mechanism to improve regional tourism integration and streamline cross-border travel logistics.
