Paris Air Show, June 17, 2025 — ZeroAvia, a global leader in zero-emission aircraft propulsion, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UK’s largest regional airline, Loganair, to explore the deployment of hydrogen-electric engines for zero-emission passenger flights across the United Kingdom.
This collaboration marks a major step toward sustainable aviation, with both companies aligning efforts to introduce clean, cost-effective, and efficient hydrogen-electric technology to Loganair’s fleet. ZeroAvia is currently progressing with certification of its ZA600 engine, a 600kW hydrogen-electric powertrain designed for 10–20 seat aircraft, including the Cessna Caravan and Twin Otter – the latter already serving vital lifeline routes for communities in the Scottish Highlands & Islands.
Looking ahead, the partnership may expand to incorporate ZeroAvia’s ZA2000 engine, a modular hydrogen-electric powertrain developed for 40–80 seat regional aircraft, such as the ATR family, of which Loganair operates over 20.
Hydrogen-electric propulsion, which generates electricity from hydrogen fuel cells to power electric motors, emits only water as a byproduct. Notably, with turboprop aircraft operating below typical contrail-forming altitudes, this technology offers virtually zero in-flight emissions. In addition to environmental benefits, it promises economic advantages through significantly reduced maintenance needs and projected long-term fuel cost savings over conventional kerosene.
The agreement further deepens ZeroAvia’s Scottish footprint. The company is already collaborating with Glasgow Airport on hydrogen fuel infrastructure and has announced plans to establish its hydrogen fuel cell manufacturing hub near the airport and Loganair’s headquarters.
Val Miftakhov, Founder and CEO of ZeroAvia, commented:
“Loganair’s route network is an ideal fit for both our ZA600 and ZA2000 technologies. We are impressed by the passion and dedication of their team and see this as the beginning of a strong customer relationship that can bring cleaner transport to passengers in Scotland and across the UK.”
Loganair CEO, Luke Farajallah, added:
“ZeroAvia’s commitment to Scotland and the strong alignment between our senior teams have made this partnership a natural step forward. Our fleet and route structure are perfectly suited for ZeroAvia’s solutions, and we are excited to work together to shape the future of sustainable aviation.”
This forward-looking alliance positions Loganair and ZeroAvia at the forefront of green aviation innovation, advancing the transition toward net-zero regional air travel.
