ATR STRENGTHENS REGIONAL CONNECTIVITY ACROSS CANADA’S REMOTE COMMUNITIES

ATR continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to regional connectivity by supporting Canada’s Northern and remote communities with its versatile and efficient turboprop aircraft. The manufacturer’s participation in the 2025 NATA Annual Conference & Tradeshow underscores its dedication to sustainable aviation solutions tailored for some of the world’s most demanding operating conditions.

Operating in Canada’s remote regions requires more than just performance—it demands resilience, adaptability, and cost-efficiency. ATR aircraft are purpose-built for this challenge. Designed to take off and land on unpaved runways, endure harsh weather conditions, and carry both passengers and critical supplies, they are a lifeline for isolated communities across the country.

Canada’s northern territories rely heavily on regional specialists for air connectivity. Currently, ten ATR operators serve this vast and rugged landscape, with Canadian North leading the way. Its fleet includes 12 ATR passenger aircraft and three dedicated freighters, ensuring continuous service to hard-to-reach areas.

In the past five years, the appeal of ATR aircraft has grown steadily among regional Canadian carriers. Notably, Rise Air placed the first new ATR order in the country since 1993—a milestone that reflects renewed confidence in turboprop technology. This was soon followed by an order from Hydro-Québec in early 2025, further validating the ATR 72-600’s versatility across varied missions.

From 2019 to 2025, the ATR fleet in Canada has expanded from 41 to 62 aircraft, with 30 ATR 42s currently serving low-demand routes where flexibility and reliability are paramount. These aircraft are proving indispensable for connecting communities that would otherwise remain isolated.

Fitted with advanced Pratt & Whitney PW127XT engines, a full glass cockpit, and high-speed connectivity, ATR’s latest generation of aircraft not only meets today’s regional aviation needs but also sets the stage for a more sustainable future. Their low fuel consumption and reduced environmental impact position ATR as a frontrunner in responsible aviation.

As demand for reliable and eco-efficient air transport continues to grow, ATR is well-placed to expand its footprint in Canada. The aircraft’s proven performance and adaptability make it an ideal partner in reinforcing community connectivity—no matter how remote.
