ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF SERVICE TO KIGALI, RWANDA

Addis Ababa, 08 June 2025 — Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest and most celebrated carrier, proudly marks a significant milestone: 50 years of uninterrupted service to Kigali, Rwanda. Since launching its inaugural flight on the Addis Ababa–Kigali route in 1975, the airline has remained a crucial conduit for diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations.

Commenting on the golden jubilee, the Group CEO stated, “We are excited to reach such a milestone. Over 50 years of service to Kigali, we have expanded both our passenger and cargo operations, with increased frequencies for the benefit of our customers. This marks another demonstration of Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to serving the people of Africa.”

Today, Ethiopian Airlines operates 21 weekly passenger flights and three dedicated cargo services between Addis Ababa and Kigali. These flights provide seamless onward connections through the airline’s vast network of over 145 destinations across five continents. With its strategic hub in Addis Ababa, the carrier offers travellers in and out of Kigali efficient global access.

Ethiopian’s role as Africa’s leading network operator cannot be overstated. It continues to close the connectivity gap across the continent while linking African nations to key global economic centres. The airline is a catalyst for intra-African trade, tourism, and essential diplomatic engagement.

Beyond the continent, Ethiopian’s footprint extends to pivotal markets in Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East—positioning it as a bridge between Africa and the world.
