Ethiopian Airlines will resume direct passenger flights between Addis Ababa and Atlanta on 21 May 2026, restoring a vital strategic link for business and diaspora travellers.
NETWORK RESTORATION
Resumption of Transatlantic Operations
Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest network carrier, has confirmed it will resume direct passenger services between Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) from 21 May 2026. The move marks the restoration of a key link in the airline’s transatlantic network following a temporary interruption that began in February 2026.
Strategic Market Significance
The reinstatement is intended to meet growing demand from business travellers, tourists, and the significant African diaspora community situated in the southeastern United States. According to Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mr Mesfin Tasew, Atlanta remains a vibrant economic and cultural hub. The route provides passengers with streamlined connectivity from the United States to a wide range of destinations across the African continent via the carrier’s primary hub in Addis Ababa.
EXPANDED GLOBAL CONNECTIVITY
Long-term Growth Strategy
The reintroduction of the Atlanta service aligns with Ethiopian Airlines’ broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the US market, where it currently operates flights to multiple gateways. By enhancing its transatlantic schedule, the carrier continues to reinforce its role as a primary bridge linking Africa with global markets. Tickets for the reinstated service are available through the airline’s official digital platforms, global ticket offices, and authorised travel agents.
