Connecting Skies • Bridging Continents

STAR ALLIANCE OPENS STAR CONNECTION CENTRE AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Star Alliance opens a new connection centre at Los Angeles International Airport to support multi-airline passenger transfers and improve operational coordination.

Star Alliance has opened a new Star Connection Centre (SCC) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), expanding its network of facilities designed to support passenger transfers between member airlines.

The new centre is the alliance’s ninth globally and is intended to assist passengers with tight connections between flights operated by Star Alliance carriers.

SUPPORTING MULTI-AIRLINE CONNECTIONS

The SCC is designed to identify passengers at risk of missing onward connections due to delayed inbound flights. According to Star Alliance, dedicated teams monitor transfer windows and coordinate assistance, including meeting passengers on arrival and guiding them to their next departure.

Los Angeles is one of the alliance’s key global transfer hubs, with more than 350,000 passengers connecting between member airlines at LAX annually.

NETWORK SCALE AND OPERATIONS

Sixteen Star Alliance member airlines currently operate at LAX, collectively providing more than 2,000 weekly flights to over 80 destinations across more than 20 countries.

The alliance has operated similar connection centres for over a decade, supporting both passenger and baggage transfers across major hubs including Brussels, Chicago, Frankfurt and Toronto, with additional baggage-focused centres in the United States.

ALLIANCE COORDINATION MODEL

According to the alliance, the SCC model is based on coordination between member airlines to provide operational support across multi-carrier itineraries. The approach is intended to maintain continuity for passengers transferring between different airlines within the network.

The LAX facility forms part of Star Alliance’s broader effort to support connectivity across its global network.
