The new year-round route joins previously announced Detroit-Athens, Boston-Venice and Austin-Paris services as Delta extends its reach and season across the Atlantic.
Delta Air Lines said it will launch new daily nonstop service between Boston and Reykjavik (KEF) beginning 12 April 2027, becoming the airline’s 14th unique long-haul destination from Boston during the peak summer season and its 16th international destination from the city. The route, which will operate through 30 October 2027, will be flown aboard a Boeing 757-200 featuring Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main.
As Boston’s number one carrier and with Boston its closest U.S. hub to Europe, Delta said it continues to expand the city’s role as a gateway to the continent. The new service builds on the airline’s history in Iceland dating back to June 2011, when it launched the first scheduled nonstop service by a U.S. carrier to Iceland, connecting New York-JFK and Reykjavik.
BOSTON TO VENICE
Delta will add four-times-weekly nonstop service between Boston and Venice beginning 7 May 2027, operating through 29 October 2027, aboard an Airbus A330-300 featuring Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main. Venice becomes Delta’s 13th unique long-haul destination from Boston during the peak summer season and its 12th destination in continental Europe, with Boston becoming Delta’s third U.S. gateway to the city; service from Boston to Milan will also increase to daily in 2027. Delta said the route strengthens its leading service to Italy, with up to 17 peak-day departures from the U.S. and more than 30,000 nonstop seats to Italy each week.
“Italy continues to be an incredibly popular destination for New England travellers, and we are excited to add Venice to our growing list of international destinations,” said Sharon Williams, Massport’s Executive Director of Aviation. “This new service provides our passengers with another opportunity to experience Italy’s incredible culture, history and tourism while strengthening the ties between our two regions. We’re grateful to Delta for continuing to invest in Boston and expand choices for our passengers.”
DETROIT TO ATHENS
Delta will launch three-times-weekly nonstop service between Detroit and Athens beginning 8 June 2027, operating through 28 October 2027, aboard an Airbus A330-200 featuring Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main. Athens becomes Delta’s 12th unique long-haul destination from Detroit during the peak summer season, and its seventh destination in continental Europe, and the route makes Detroit Delta’s fourth U.S. gateway to the Greek capital, with connections available to more than 40 U.S. destinations through Detroit.
“For the first time at DTW, travellers in Southeast Michigan will have nonstop access to Athens, one of the world’s most iconic destinations,” said Wayne County Airport Authority CEO Chad Newton. “We appreciate Delta Air Lines’ continued investment in Detroit and are excited about the new opportunities this service will create for tourism, business and cultural connections.”
AUSTIN TO PARIS
The Boston and Detroit routes join Delta’s previously announced daily service between Austin and Paris, launching 27 March 2027, Austin’s first-ever nonstop service to Paris. The flight will operate aboard an Airbus A330-900neo featuring Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main, giving customers one-stop access to nearly 70 destinations across Europe, India and Africa through Delta’s partnership with Air France-KLM.
“Customers continue to seek more flexibility, convenience and choice when travelling to Europe, whether they are planning a spring escape, a summer vacation or a fall getaway,” said Jeff Arinder, Delta’s Vice President of International Network Planning. “By adding new European destinations from Detroit and Boston, establishing Austin as a new gateway to Europe and extending service on several popular routes, we’re giving customers more choice, greater flexibility and more opportunities to travel when and how they want.”
EXTENDED EUROPEAN SEASON
Delta is also extending its European travel season for 2027. Seasonal service from Minneapolis-St. Paul and Detroit to Rome begins in early March, followed by Seattle-Rome in April; flights from New York-JFK to Catania, Porto, Prague and Copenhagen will return earlier, as will service connecting Boston and Seattle with Barcelona and Atlanta with Edinburgh. Detroit-Rome and New York-JFK-Copenhagen will operate daily when they resume, while Cincinnati-Paris service continues three times weekly from January through March.
