23 May 2025 — The African Airlines Association (AFRAA), the premier trade body for African airlines, has entered a strategic data partnership with Cirium, the world’s leading provider of aviation analytics. This collaboration aims to deepen analytical capabilities tailored to the African air transport market, supporting the sector’s ongoing growth and resilience.
As African aviation experiences a robust recovery—with international passenger flights to and from the continent rising 27% year-on-year in 2024, according to Cirium data—the partnership is timed to harness this momentum. By leveraging Cirium’s comprehensive scheduling, fleet, and market intelligence tools, AFRAA will enhance its data-driven reporting, enabling better support for member airlines and fostering sustainable expansion.
Jeremy Bowen, CEO of Cirium, commented:
“International traffic to and from Africa is experiencing rapid growth, presenting a major opportunity for the continent’s airlines. By leveraging Cirium’s world-class data and AFRAA’s industry leadership, we’re enabling airlines to make smarter, faster, and more sustainable decisions that will shape the future of African aviation.”
Cirium’s suite of analytics solutions, including the Diio SRS Analyzer for strategic scheduling insights, Ascend Fleets Analyzer for fleet planning and sustainability, and the Cirium Dashboard for real-time market intelligence, will strengthen AFRAA’s ability to provide critical industry analysis. These tools help airlines operate more efficiently, swiftly adapt to market changes, and unlock new revenue streams.
AFRAA Secretary General Abderahmane Berthé emphasised the value of the partnership:
“The use of data-driven tools is critical to providing intelligence to airlines, airports, governments, regulators, and other industry stakeholders for decision-making that will sustain and boost aviation in Africa. Data is the cornerstone of decision-making. Partnering with Cirium accelerates our ability to meet data needs, ensuring we stay ahead in a rapidly evolving market.”
This strategic alliance aligns with AFRAA’s 2025 roadmap, which prioritises improving connectivity, reducing operational costs, enhancing sustainability, and advancing digital transformation across Africa’s aviation landscape.
