In a landmark move for African aviation, Boeing and the Republic of Angola’s Ministry of Transport signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation today at the 2025 Paris Air Show. The agreement, formed in partnership with TAAG Angola Airlines, outlines a collaborative framework aimed at accelerating the development of Angola’s aviation sector.
With a national agenda focused on economic diversification and tourism growth, Angola is placing strategic emphasis on modernising its aviation infrastructure. The newly signed memorandum highlights a shared vision between Boeing and Angola to support operational efficiency through digital transformation, enhance technical and maintenance capabilities, expand route networks, and guide fleet renewal.
“TAAG Angola Airlines, the national airline of Angola, has been a cornerstone of the African aviation landscape since its inception in 1938,” said Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, Angola’s Minister of Transport. “This partnership with Boeing represents a significant step forward in our commitment to enhancing operational capabilities, improving technical and maintenance capacity, and expanding our reach.”
He added that the collaboration is part of a broader strategy that includes significant investment in Angola’s new international airport, with the aim of establishing TAAG as a leading airline in Africa. “By investing in modern technologies and practices, we aim to meet the demands of today’s travellers while contributing to the economic diversification and growth of Angola,” said Minister D’Abreu.
Brad McMullen, Boeing’s senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, welcomed the agreement, saying: “This partnership underscores Boeing’s commitment to supporting the growth of the aviation sector in Angola and the continued expansion of TAAG Angola Airlines’ capabilities. We look forward to building on nearly eight decades of supporting commercial aviation in Africa.”
Boeing aircraft currently make up nearly 70% of Africa’s commercial fleet, serving more than 60 airlines. According to Boeing’s 2025 Commercial Market Outlook, Africa is projected to need over 1,200 new aircraft over the next two decades to meet rising demand—an opportunity that this partnership is strategically poised to address.
This agreement not only strengthens ties between Boeing and Angola but sets the stage for a more connected, efficient, and modern African aviation ecosystem.
