In a significant development at the ongoing Singapore Airshow 2024, Air India has chosen Collins Aerospace, a business under RTX (NYSE: RTX), to furnish its expanding fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft with a comprehensive suite of avionics hardware. This collaboration underscores Air India’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.

The agreement encompasses a range of avionics solutions including communication, navigation, surveillance equipment, and air data sensors meticulously designed to augment the safety, fuel efficiency, and overall performance of Air India’s fleet. Craig Bries, Vice President and General Manager of Avionics Sales, Marketing, and Aftermarket Services at Collins Aerospace, emphasised the pivotal role this partnership will play in shaping the future of Air India’s 737 MAX fleet. He expressed confidence in Collins’ cutting-edge technology and its potential to deliver exceptional performance and reliability.


Nipun Aggrawal, Chief Commercial & Transformation Officer at Air India, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of Collins Aerospace as a strategic partner in their transformation journey. The integration of Collins’ avionics hardware will not only benefit Air India’s current fleet but also cater to the needs of its expanding operations.


Collins Aerospace’s suite of advanced avionics promises to revolutionise Air India’s flight operations. Multi-mode receivers will enable precise satellite and ground-based navigation, ensuring high position accuracy, integrity, and the flexibility for future upgrades through software updates. Additionally, Collins’ radio altimeters will provide accurate digital height measurements during critical flight phases, while effectively filtering and mitigating potential interference from 5G cellular networks.


Air India will also benefit from Collins’ MultiScan ThreatTrack™ weather radar system, which anticipates adverse weather conditions, enabling real-time route adjustments to minimise deviations and delays. This advanced technology ensures a smoother journey for passengers, enhancing overall flight experience.
