EMBRAER AND ALADA SIGN MOU TO ADVANCE DEFENCE EXPORT OPPORTUNITIES

Embraer and ALADA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore new business opportunities in the defence and security sector, with a focus on government-to-government (G2G) contracting models across Latin America and Africa.

AGREEMENT SIGNED AT FIDAE

The agreement was signed in Santiago, Chile, during the FIDAE aerospace exhibition, and will see the two organisations evaluate potential collaboration in markets where defence acquisitions are conducted through G2G frameworks.

ALADA, a Brazilian state-owned aerospace company, was recently authorised by Brazil’s Ministry of Defence to manage G2G procurement processes on behalf of the country’s Defence Industrial Base.

NEW PROCUREMENT MODEL FOR EXPORT MARKETS

The partnership introduces an alternative route for countries seeking to procure defence systems through formal intergovernmental agreements.

This model is intended to facilitate access to Embraer’s defence portfolio, while strengthening Brazil’s institutional role in international defence negotiations. It also aims to provide greater structure and credibility to complex procurement processes in emerging markets.

STRATEGIC FOCUS ON LATIN AMERICA AND AFRICA

The MoU aligns with Embraer’s broader strategy to expand its presence in key international markets, particularly across Latin America and Africa, where defence modernisation programmes continue to evolve.

Through the partnership, both companies will engage with government stakeholders to identify opportunities where G2G agreements can support procurement requirements and long-term defence capability development.

EMBRAER DEFENCE PLATFORM POSITIONING

Embraer’s defence portfolio includes the KC-390 Millennium military transport aircraft and the A-29 Super Tucano, both of which are already in service with multiple operators globally.

These platforms are positioned to benefit from the G2G model, particularly in markets where government-led procurement frameworks are required for acquisition.

INDUSTRY AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS

The agreement reflects a broader trend towards structured, state-supported defence exports, where government involvement plays a central role in facilitating international deals.

By formalising this approach through ALADA, Brazil is seeking to strengthen its aerospace export capability while supporting the development of its domestic defence industry.
