FlySafair has relaunched its annual School Booster competition, offering South African schools the opportunity to win a total of 100 return domestic flights to support educational and extracurricular travel.
EXPANDING ACCESS THROUGH AVIATION
Now in its third year, the initiative will see ten schools each awarded ten return domestic flights. The programme invites schools to submit motivations outlining how air travel would create meaningful opportunities for their learners.
Â
The competition reflects a continued focus on improving access to travel for educational, sporting, and cultural development across South Africa.

Â
GROWING PARTICIPATION AND IMPACT
Since its launch in 2024, the School Booster competition has expanded significantly. In its inaugural year, three schools received flight allocations, while the 2025 edition attracted 788 entries, with ten schools selected as beneficiaries.
Â
To date, a total of 13 schools have benefited from the programme.
Â
FlySafair representatives will again visit winning schools to formally present the awards.

Â
APPLICATION PROCESS AND TIMELINE
The 2026 competition opened on 8 April and will close on 29 April. Schools are required to submit a written motivation, endorsed by the principal, detailing how the flights will benefit learners.

BROADER COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
The School Booster forms part of FlySafair’s wider social investment programme. Other initiatives include the Business Booster competition, which has supported small enterprises with travel opportunities, and partnerships aimed at facilitating access to specialised medical care for children.
Â
The airline also promotes South African creative industries through onboard art initiatives.
Â
Â
AIRLINE CONTEXT
Since commencing operations in 2014, FlySafair has established itself as a leading low-cost carrier in Southern Africa, operating domestic and regional routes. The airline has received multiple industry awards, including recognition for operational performance and customer satisfaction.

Â
INDUSTRY CONTEXT
Programmes such as School Booster highlight the role airlines can play beyond core transport services, particularly in markets where geographic distance can limit access to opportunity.
Â
In the South African context, domestic air connectivity remains a critical enabler of mobility for education, sport, and economic participation.
