HANNOVER AIRPORT JOINS BARIG TO SUPPORT OPERATIONAL COOPERATION WITH AIRLINES

Hannover Airport has joined the Board of Airline Representatives in Germany (BARIG), strengthening collaboration between airport operators and airline stakeholders to support operational improvements and passenger experience.

EXPANDING INDUSTRY COLLABORATION

BARIG has confirmed the addition of Hannover Airport as a new partner, extending its network to include infrastructure stakeholders alongside airline members.

The partnership is intended to support closer coordination across operational areas including ground handling, aviation security and sustainability.

FOCUS ON OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS

Through the collaboration, BARIG and its member airlines will work with Hannover Airport to enhance operational processes and passenger services.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Improving ground operations efficiency
  • Enhancing passenger experience
  • Strengthening coordination between airlines and airport systems

The initiative reflects the increasing complexity of airport-airline interactions as operational demands evolve.

ROLE OF HANNOVER AIRPORT

Hannover Airport is the only international commercial airport in Lower Saxony and operates under a 24-hour licence, supporting a range of aviation activities.

In addition to scheduled and charter passenger services, the airport functions as:

  • A cargo gateway
  • A base for police helicopter operations
  • A hub for air rescue services
  • An alternate base for emergency response units

In 2025, the airport handled approximately 5.3 million passengers and offers more than 60 direct destinations.

INDUSTRY CONTEXT

BARIG represents over 100 national and international airlines operating in Germany across scheduled, charter, low-cost and cargo sectors.

The inclusion of airport operators within its network reflects a broader industry focus on integrated collaboration to address operational challenges and improve system-wide efficiency.

OUTLOOK

As aviation in Germany continues to evolve, partnerships between airlines and airport infrastructure providers are expected to play an increasing role in shaping operational performance and service delivery.

The addition of Hannover Airport to BARIG provides a platform for coordinated engagement on future operational and industry developments.
