JEDDAH – 8 May 2025– The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has convened a high-level workshop in Jeddah aimed at aligning Saudi Arabia’s aviation training priorities with the Kingdom’s ambitious Vision 2030 goals. The gathering brought together senior figures from government, academia, and the aviation sector to address the growing need for skills development in an evolving industry landscape.
Key discussions at the workshop centred on closing existing skills gaps and ensuring the future workforce is equipped to support Saudi Arabia’s expanding aviation ambitions. The event spotlighted three main priorities for training and development: adapting to digital transformation, investing in grassroots talent, and reinforcing core aviation skills.
“The aviation sector is central to achieving Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Building a workforce that is agile, digitally skilled, and grounded in global best practices is essential,” said Tanja Schmidt, IATA’s Director of Training. “This workshop marks an important step in aligning training priorities across the Kingdom and ensuring that we are addressing both current gaps and future requirements.”
Participants included representatives from leading institutions and companies such as the Colleges of Excellence, Saudi Academy of Civil Aviation (SACA), Saudia, Riyadh Air, Cluster2, Prince Sultan Aviation Academy (PSAA), Qassim University, Riyadh Airports Company, flyadeal, and Saudi Ground Services (SGS).
As Saudi Arabia positions itself as a global aviation hub, initiatives like this workshop will be critical in building the skilled talent pool needed to power the industry’s growth and transformation.
