QATAR AIRWAYS EXPANDS AFRICAN NETWORK WITH NEW ROUTES AND ADDITIONAL FREQUENCIES

Qatar Airways will expand its African network from June 2026 with increased frequencies, resumed services, and a new Port Sudan route launching in July.

Airline to resume services and increase capacity across multiple African destinations from June 2026

Qatar Airways has announced a series of African network expansions and service resumptions scheduled to begin from June 2026 as the airline continues strengthening connectivity across the continent.

The carrier confirmed that additional frequencies and resumed services will be introduced across several African destinations, while a new Port Sudan route will launch in July.

According to the airline, the expanded schedule forms part of broader efforts to enhance connectivity between Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the airline’s global network through Doha.

Service resumptions and frequency increases

From 16 June 2026, Qatar Airways will resume four weekly services to Seychelles and two weekly services to Kigali.

A daily service to Marrakesh is scheduled to begin from 1 July 2026.

The airline also announced additional frequencies on several existing African routes, including:

  • Alexandria: increasing from three weekly flights to seven
  • Cairo: increasing from 28 weekly flights to 35
  • Cape Town: increasing from seven weekly flights to 10
  • Dar es Salaam: increasing from three weekly flights to seven
  • Lusaka–Harare: increasing from five weekly flights to seven
  • Maputo–Durban: increasing from four weekly flights to seven

The airline said the increases are intended to support growing passenger demand and strengthen regional and international connectivity.

New Port Sudan route

Qatar Airways will also launch three weekly services between Doha and Port Sudan from 2 July 2026.

Flights will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

The airline stated that the route is expected to improve travel access for passengers connecting from markets including Oman and Pakistan via Hamad International Airport in Doha.

The Port Sudan route forms part of the airline’s continuing network rebuilding strategy as it expands operations to more than 160 destinations worldwide.

Operational and strategic growth

Qatar Airways described the expansion as part of a balanced growth strategy aimed at strengthening trade and travel connectivity while responding to increasing market demand.

The airline currently operates one of the largest international route networks in the Middle East and continues to position Doha’s Hamad International Airport as a major global transfer hub.

According to the airline, Hamad International Airport serves as the central connection point for the carrier’s expanding intercontinental operations.
